2010 Gala Celebrations Announcement

2010 is the International Year of the Nurse. This is also the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Rho Gamma, Elmira College’s chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (STTI). In honor of these special events Dr. Karen Morin, President of STTI will be at Elmira College October 28 and 29 to meet with faculty, students, area nurses and members of the community. While plans for Dr. Morin’s visit are still being finalized, there will be many opportunities for you to meet with her. Please join us in our special celebration of nursing.

Octagon Fair Coming Up - Volunteers Needed!!

Octagon Fair is September 25. The Nurse Education Program needs volunteers to help us staff our booth. Our busiest times are 11 am to 4:30 which includes break down time. Students, faculty, alumni and members of Rho Gamma who are interested in helping us with this fund raiser should contact the Nurse Education Program.

Upcoming Joint Meeting with Professional Nurses District #3

Our fall meeting will be a joint meeting with Professional Nurses District #3. The meeting will be on September 14, the location is yet to be determined. The speaker will be Marguerite Smith, RN, MS, NP-C. She received an AD in Nursing from Palomar College in Palomar California and a BSN and a MS from University of Portland, Portland, OR. She is nationally certified in advanced adult health and chronic pain. Marguerite is the current Director of the Nurse Education Program at Corning Community College. Prior to coming to Corning, Marguerite had a private adult health practice in Oregon.

September Meeting

This is a reminder that we will have our monthly meeting on Monday, the 14th at 5 pm in Carnegie 204. Our main item on the agenda will be Octagon Fair and we need to have one more person who can go to the STTI Biennial convention. If you can get cast off jewelry please bring that with you as well. We need to send 2 representatives to stay in good standing with Sigma. Please check your calendars and see if you can attend. I am not able to participate because I am scheduled to do an NLNAC visit was changed and now overlaps the convention.

July 27 Board of Directors Meeting

There will be a meeting of the current and in-coming board members on July 27th at 4:30 PM at Lois’ home in Pine City. It is a bring a dish to pass affair.

Note for board members: As this is a planning session for our future, please make every effort to attend. If you are an outgoing member of the Board, please assure you update your Rho Gamma notebook and bring it to the meeting to pass on to the in-coming officer. Also, please review the attached minutes for the May meeting. If you have any agenda items, please let Sue Gosden know (manus@htva.net) or e-mail Lois.
